Welcome to the Iowa HFMA website

President's Message

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I am truly honored to serve as President of the Iowa Chapter of HFMA. As President I look forward to building on the momentum and successes that our Chapter has enjoyed, thanks to the efforts of past Presidents and our dedicated volunteers.

“Whatever it Takes,” is this year’s National Chair Theme.  So true is this year’s message.  It does not matter if you are a provider, vendor, volunteer, student, etc.  Healthcare is affecting each and every one of us in some very difficult ways.  The question is when times are tough do you answer the call and rise up and do what it takes to get through these opportunities?  You could be going through a system conversion; competition could be getting tougher, consolidation, turnover, loss of providers, increase costs of supplies, staffing, etc.  No matter what you are going thru, if you answer the call to be the leader of these opportunities, we are not pushing the issues forward any longer but instead are doing the right thing and dealing with them now.

The government continues to increase their auditing programs (RACs, MACs and the latest prepayment audits).  Follow this with ICD-10 implementation about a year away; we have a very busy time ahead.

I encourage you to look at your membership and take advantage of all the great educational opportunities that the Chapter offers.  The committee is made up of members like you.  We receive topic requests from providers and sponsors, CAH facilities and PPS, facility based physicians and free standing groups.  Your Chapter offers education for all of its members throughout the year.  This can be one of the four quarterly meetings, webinars, road shows, one day events, etc.

If you are not seeing a topic being offered that you would want reach out to your Chapter officers and board members and request it.  Better yet, join the Programming Committee and help to organize these educational events.  Each one of the events takes some programming and coordinating to put on.  With the help of many hands it makes the work go a lot easier.

I encourage you to volunteer to assist our Chapter on any of its Committees. I know from personal experience that active involvement will prove to be valuable to your professional growth. I look forward to another successful year.

Regards,

Shawn Steffen

President

Iowa HFMA Chapter
