HFMA Networking:  Good People Getting Together to Do Good Work
Dorothy's House

Summer charity 3
Recently, our Iowa HFMA chapter members had a humbling opportunity to help a local not-for-profit organization in Des Moines.  After our meeting July 19, 2018, approximately thirty volunteers headed to Dorothy’s House to undertake landscaping and outdoor home maintenance services.

Everyone put in plenty of sweat equity for a couple hours, but with the help of cookies made by a resident, we all powered through and got as much done as we were asked to do.
Dorothy’s House, founded by Kellie Markey, provides a safe place for the practice of life for teen and youth girls whose lives have been interrupted by the sex trafficking industry.  They are provided basic needs, beginning with security in a home environment.  They also receive a healthy diet, specialized care, education and training, and the ability to recognize their potential and dream of a positive future.
Much perspective was gained in this amazing opportunity to help Kellie and her organization, in whatever small way we did.

The members and leaders of the Iowa HFMA chapter continue to put others before themselves.  Once again, good people got together and did good work.

Thank you to all who volunteered their time and talents.  Kellie could not say thank you enough.

Member Opportunities: Leadership Training Conference

Img 0501 ltc 2018
Each year, the Iowa Chapter of HFMA is able to send chapter leaders to the Leadership Training Conference (LTC) through the support of our members and sponsors.

The 2018 Leadership Training Conference was held in New Orleans, LA.
At LTC, chapter leaders are provided an opportunity to learn about their leadership roles.  Everything is covered from communications to programming meetings to building/sustaining membership.

Being able to connect with other fellow chapter leaders across the country also provides an invaluable networking opportunity!
The Iowa Chapter traditionally sends each incoming chapter officer, as well as additional nominees of various board and committee positions.  As each chapter leader would readily tell you, becoming involved in HFMA is a rewarding experience, where you receive just as much as you give.
Are you interested in becoming more involved in our great Association?  See the Chapter Leader section of our website and reach out to one of us - we're always looking for new volunteers, and we'll be happy to connect you with the committee that interests you!

2018 Iowa HFMA Women's Conference: Focus on Giving - Single Parent Provision, Teahl Bader

The featured charity at the 2018 Iowa HFMA Women's Conference was the Single Parent Provision.  Teahl Bader provided information on this initiative:

42% of children in Des Moines are being raised in a single parent household. In some zip codes in Central Iowa, that number increases to 48%! The mission of Single Parent Provision is to glorify God by partnering with single
parents to help strengthen their lives and the lives of their families. We believe all single parents need:

 To understand that though they are single, they are not alone.

 To know there is a community of people who care about them and their family.

 To have a trusted partner who understands the unique needs of single parent families.

 To have access to practical programs and services to help them in their journey.

 To hear a hopeful voice that points them to a brighter future.

Our Community Service -
Ronald McDonald House

Ia hfma fall 2017 service320171107 17595 eniq1z
Members receive some guidance from Beth, our facility host at Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines.
As part of our 2017 fall hospitality event, our members had the opportunity to participate in some community service by doing some much needed work at the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines.
Due to construction on the new Ronald McDonald house, we gathered at the temporary location on the East side of Des Moines. Our chapter members volunteered part of their evening and assisted with cleaning and organizing as well as assembling and sorting giving tree ornaments.

Volunteer Opportunities
You do not have to be a new member to enjoy the opportunity to get involved.  The Committee Leaders and their teams would like to accept your expertise and help in their projects.

This will require some time commitment.  Some are greater than others.  Click here to see a list of the individuals who have served as Iowa HFMA President:

Please see our committees and who to contact about getting involved with them by clicking on this link Chapter Leaders & Committee Chairs.

Iowa HFMA has a major commitment to communicating with its members and volunteering to help with the committees involved is a great way to work with many HFMA members on a regular basis:
